Albuquerque Balloon Festival
October 9th – 12th 2012
$619 Double / $789 Single
Day 1: Depart Kingman; we will take a break in the Flagstaff area before we stop for
lunch in Gallup, NM. When we arrive in Albuquerque, before checking into our hotel,
we will visit Old Town. A maze of cobbled courtyard walkways leads to hidden patios
and gardens, where many of Old Town's 150 galleries and shops are located. Adobe
buildings, many refurbished in the pueblo revival style of the 1950s are grouped
around the tree-shaded plaza, created in 1780. This evening you will be treated to
dinner at a local Mexican Restaurant.
Day 2: Get ready for the world-famous Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta! Experience the
pre-dawn unforgettable Mass Ascension—where hundreds of hot air balloons take off
and turn the sky into a virtual rainbow of colors, all of which are led by a balloon flying
the American flag to the music of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Upon arrival a crew of
volunteers and Balloon Fiesta staff will welcome you and take you inside the
Hospitality Tent, which is heated for comfort. You will be serve light refreshments such
as coffee, hot chocolate, tea, lemonade, donuts and cookies. After the Balloons are
gone, we will walk over to the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. Next we will
visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Here you will learn about the history,
background and life of what now comprises the 19 pueblos of New Mexico. We will
be having lunch in the Harvest Café at the museum.
Day 3:Journey north through dramatic landscapes to Santa Fe, the oldest seat of
government in the United States. Santa Fe is known for its unique shopping, world-
famous art galleries and museums. The day is yours to explore Santa Fe and enjoy
lunch on your own. On the way back to our hotel we will be making a stop at the Gruet
Winery. From the highly regarded house of Gruet in France to the high desert of New
Mexico, Gruet offers some of the best sparkling wines in the country. This evening we
return to the Balloon Fiesta grounds to catch the popular Balloon Glow, where all
balloons fire up their burners and light up at the same time, and the After-Glow
Fireworks Show.
Day 4: Following breakfast at our hotel we will depart and head for Gallup for a short
break. We will make another stop in Winslow for lunch (on you own). Our next stop will
be at the Meteor Crater where we will view the remains of a 50,000-year old meteor
impact, which crashed with a force greater than 20 million tons of exploding TNT. Our
final break will be in Williams before we arrive home in Kingman.
