| While all regions would like to claim Billy the Kid as their outlaw, Lincoln County is widely known as "Billy the Kid Country." Historic Lincoln was his home and this is where he gained the lion's share of his notoriety. The famous Lincoln County War, a classic battle among rivaling cattle barons, merchants and cowboys, gave Billy the chance to strut his stuff. Boy did he ever, especially during that daring escape from the Lincoln County jail where he killed two deputies. Now he rests safely underground at the Fort Sumner Military Cemetery in Fort Sumner. We will travel by Motor coach to Benson, AZ where we will spend our first night and have dinner at a local restaurant. The next morning following breakfast at our hotel we will head to Las Cruces, NM where we will have lunch and see Pat Garrett’s grave. We will make a couple of other short stops at Billy the Kid historical sites on our way to Ruidoso, NM and check into our hotel for the next two nights. Following breakfast at our hotel we will drive to Ft Stanton for a tour. Then we are off to historic Lincoln where we will have lunch followed by a Guided Tour of the numerous Billy the Kid historical sites. We will be making brief stops at several more Billy the Kid sites on are way back to our hotel. We will have breakfast before departing our hotel and heading to Roswell, NM. We will take a break and see Pat Garrett’s home and the home of one of his deputies. Heading north we will reach the town of Fort Sumner in time for lunch. Following lunch we will visit Fort Sumner and the gravesite of Billy the Kid. We will take a break in Puerto de Luna another of Billy the Kid favorite towns. While we are there we will visit “Our Lady of Refuge” church. This evening we will be spending the night at a hotel in Albuquerque, NM. Our final day will be a travel day. We will depart Albuquerque following breakfast stopping for a break in Gallup, NM. Our lunch break will be in Flagstaff with our final break in the Kingman area. We will be returning to Lake Havasu in the early evening.
